Canada Fluorspar Mining Operations On Schedule With Komatsu Fleet

CFI - Canada Fluorspar (NL) Inc., a company 100% owned by Golden Gate Capital, is developing the St. Lawrence Fluorspar Project in St. Lawrence, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

CFI has begun to mine high quality fluorspar ore from the AGS Vein, produce acid-grade fluorspar concentrate, and export the product to domestic and international markets.

The current resource estimate of the AGS vein indicates the mine will operate for approximately 10 years. CFI has also identified other fluorspar ore bodies in the vicinity of the AGS, which could be mined after the AGS ore has been exhausted.

The fluorspar deposits of St. Lawrence are known for accessibility, high grade and absence of impurities. The Project is located close to major North Atlantic and European shipping routes enhancing its appeal.

Construction Activities Well Advanced and on Schedule

The main activities currently being carried out during the two-year construction phase of the Project are site preparation, open pit development, construction of infrastructure, installation of utilities, restoration of temporary work areas, and commissioning. All of these are currently well advanced and on schedule.

Project Components Under Construction

The Project components include the mine, mill, tailings management facility, water management facilities and general site drainage, and restoration of existing buildings. Buildings that are constructed for the Project include: mill, electrical, concentrate storage, administration and engineering, maintenance, reagent storage, explosive storage, security, water treatment, laboratory and dryhouse.

  • Site preparation, which included vegetation clearing, site grading and excavation, are largely complete.
  • A water supply system will also be constructed on site. Approximately seven kilometres of mine roads are being built.
  • Open-pit development will take approximately 16 months. During this time, a small amount of fluorspar has been mined from the surface to accommodate mill commissioning.
  • A tailings pipeline is being built to connect the mill to the tailings management facility.
